As we expand our programmes, we seek to fill the role of a Programme Officer (Qualitative Research). The ideal candidate will have strong research, analytical and communication skills and a demonstrable ability to plan and manage research design and implementation processes.  The  successful  candidate  will  work  as  a  key  part  of  the  core implementation team to coordinate the design and delivery of various programmes within the organisation.

Key Roles and Responsibilities
The PO will support and be partly responsible for:

  • Designing, planning and conducting primary qualitative research at state and federal levels, utilising a range of qualitative methods
  • Assisting with all aspects of research design including proposal development, documentation of project requirements, research plan development and budgeting, and securing necessary ethical clearance for data collection
  • Managing transcription, data cleaning and entry processes, coding, overseeing data quality control, and developing and maintaining project reporting frameworks
  • Writing and compiling a variety of research outputs including reports and articles, and can document processes and findings in writing and through data visualization
  • Identifying and maintaining an active risks and issues log, meeting notes and journal of lessons learnt from projects
  • Contributing to research dissemination activities
  • Working closely with international and national stakeholders as well as in-country teams to ensure projects are delivered to schedule and within budget
  • Representing the organization when and where necessary


Technical and Behavioural competencies

  • Excellent analytical skills with advanced proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and in the use of qualitative data entry software such as Atlas.ti or NVivo
  • Organised and able to participate in and lead physical and virtual teams
  • Proven ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team with respect for diversity


Experience/ Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, economics/statistics, psychology or another development-related field from a recognised university (possession of a Master’s degree or higher is an added advantage)
  • Minimum of 3 years of qualitative research experience from any of the following sectors: international development, education or social entrepreneurship
  • Experience working on donor/grant funded programmes will serve as an added advantage
  • Ability to provide own technical writing samples or research publications
  • Multilingual speaker desirable (Hausa, French desirable)
