Siyavula, an education technology company based in South Africa, sought to develop a suitable maths learning application and open source digital textbooks for secondary school students in Nigeria.
Our Approach: In order to contextualize the app to suit the Nigerian learners, Siyavula’s education team in partnership with TEP Centre, organized a 3-day workshop with Mathematics teachers from public and private secondary schools; a town hall meeting with youth organisations that run programmes/initiatives for secondary schools’ students in Lagos, Kano, and Akwa Ibom states; and school visits to private and public schools.
Result: The TEP Centre team facilitated the school visits, making it possible for Siyavula to interact personally with the students and understand their approach to learning and social interactions. This information informed the designing of the app to suit the Nigerian education system.
